Pre-Operative Instructions

PRE-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS

EATING OR DRINKING

FAILURE TO STRICTLY FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS COULD RESULT IN ASPIRATION AND MAY BE FATAL.

For your anesthesia, it is extremely important that patients have an empty stomach for their procedure.  Please follow these instructions carefully.

Under the age of 5

  • No solid foods for six (6) hours prior to appointment.
  • Total of 4 oz. of water or apple juice ONLY may be taken up to four (4) hours prior to appointment time.
  • Nothing may be taken by mouth for four (4) hours prior to appointment time.

CLOTHING

  • Please wear comfortable clothing that includes a short sleeve shirt.
  • Children should bring a light to medium blanket for the procedure and ride home.
  • Please bring a change of clothing for children who do not wear a diaper or pull-up.
  • Do not wear makeup, nail polish or false eyelashes.
  • Please remove contact lenses prior to your appointment.

CHANGE IN HEALTH STATUS AND MEDICATIONS

  • A change in health status, especially the development of a cold or fever, is extremely important.  Please notify Dr. Sophia Tan, DDS immediately if there is any change in your child’s or your health status.
  • Prescription medications should be taken as scheduled unless previously indicated by Dr. Sophia Tan, DDS and may be taken only with minimal sip of water.

DESIGNATED DRIVER

  • A responsible adult must accompany the patient o the office and remain throughout the appointment.
  • Do not plan on driving or making decisions for the next twenty-four (24) hours after the administration of anesthesia.
  • Please arrange to have a responsible adult spend the rest of the day with you or your child.
  • Please provide car seats for your children.
